Texas apostille guide
Quick answer: To obtain an apostille for an eligible Texas document, check who issued it, obtain the correct original or recently issued certified copy (or an original properly notarized in Texas), identify the country where it will be used, and arrange submission to the Texas Secretary of State. You can start our document review online, but an ordinary PDF or photo alone does not replace the physical document required for the state filing.
Texas public records belong on the Texas route. An FBI background check or a record from another state needs a different issuing authority's process.
Texas requires an eligible original, a Texas-issued certified copy, or an original Texas-notarized document. Official recordable certified records generally must have been issued within the past five years.
Tell us which country and receiving organization will use your document. A country outside the Apostille Convention may require additional federal authentication or consular legalization.
We confirm document eligibility, available Standard / Priority / Express handling, the full quote, and the correct mailing instructions before you pay or send an original.
Some recipients request a certified translation of the document, the apostille, or both. Translation and international shipping are quoted separately from the Texas apostille package.
Texas estimates up to two weeks for mailed-request processing after receipt. Shipping takes extra time. Faster service is subject to confirmed availability.

The Texas Secretary of State generally requires an eligible original, a Texas-issued certified copy, or an original document properly notarized by a Texas notary. An ordinary scan is useful for our first review, but it is not a substitute for the document required for filing.
Texas advises that certified records be issued within the past five years for apostille eligibility. If your record is older, ask us about getting a newer certified copy before you mail it.

Optional add-on
A receiving authority may ask for a translation of your Texas document, the apostille, or both. We can quote certified translation separately when you request your apostille.
Tell us the destination country, target language, and the recipient's instructions. We will help you identify what to ask for, without claiming that one translation format is accepted everywhere.
Translation is optional and quoted separately. A certified translation does not replace an apostille or other authentication, and it is not a government-issued document.
One document, the right authority
The type of document and country of use determine the process. We check the destination before confirming your order.
Eligible Texas-issued and Texas-notarized documents generally go through the Texas Secretary of State for use in Hague Apostille Convention countries.
An FBI background check is a federal document, not a Texas state document. See our existing FBI Apostille service for the separate federal route.
For Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, or elsewhere in the UAE or Qatar, a regular Texas apostille package may not be enough. State and federal authentication plus consular attestation may be required; ask us for a separate quote.
Tell us whether your document is going to the UAE or Qatar and who will receive it. We can review the appropriate Texas, U.S. federal, consular, and translation steps. These are separate legalization services, not included in our $125 / $195 / $395 Texas apostille packages.

Answers before you order
Wondering if you need a notary, whether a photocopy works, or which certified record to send? Find clear answers below.
No. A Texas birth certificate is an official vital record. Use an eligible original or a recent certified copy issued by the proper government office. A notary cannot turn a regular photocopy into a certified birth record.
An ordinary photocopy is not accepted as a substitute for an official Texas birth record. Request an eligible government-issued certified copy. You may upload a photo of what you have for our free preliminary check.
No. Texas notaries cannot certify copies of recordable vital records such as birth certificates. For a Texas birth certificate, obtain a certified copy from the appropriate government records office.
A certified vital-record copy comes from the government office holding the original record, with its official certification. A notary certifies certain non-recordable documents or witnesses signatures; notarization does not replace an official certified birth or marriage record.
No. A marriage record is a recordable government document. Use an eligible original or recently issued certified copy from the appropriate county clerk or records office, not a notarized photocopy.
Send a photo or PDF through our form for a free preliminary review. The Texas filing generally requires the eligible physical original, government-certified copy, or properly Texas-notarized original; an ordinary emailed scan is not a substitute.
The receiving country or organization decides which birth-certificate format it needs. Texas offers different certified record types. Tell us your destination and upload a photo for review before ordering a replacement.
Texas generally requires recordable certified documents to have been issued within the past five years for apostille eligibility. You may need a newly issued certified copy; we can review the date and type first.
Texas Vital Statistics or an authorized local records office can issue an eligible certified birth record. Ask for the certified record you need for use abroad; we can check it before your apostille order. See Texas Vital Statistics guidance ↗
It depends on the issuing school and the document format. Some school documents need an original Texas notarial act or other specific certification. Share what the school gave you so we can identify the appropriate route.
A privately signed power of attorney generally needs a proper Texas notarial act before Texas can authenticate the notary signature. We can check the existing notarization; we do not draft legal documents.
No. A notary performs eligible notarizations; the Texas Secretary of State issues the state apostille. Notarization may be needed for some private documents, but is not required for an official certified birth or marriage record.
First confirm that the document is an eligible Texas-issued record or Texas-notarized original, and check which country will receive it. Texas offers direct state processing; our private service can start with a free preliminary review and quote before you send an original.
Yes, you can start a request with us online or by WhatsApp. Most physical Texas documents still require the original or an eligible certified copy for state processing. The optional Tilda file-upload field is for preliminary review, not an electronic state filing.
The state usually requires an original Texas-issued record, an eligible Texas-certified copy, or an original properly notarized Texas document. A phone photo is useful for preliminary review but normally cannot replace the physical filing document.
An eligible certified Texas birth certificate can be considered for state apostille processing. We check its issuing authority and issuance date first. A hospital keepsake, souvenir certificate, or ordinary photocopy is not the same as an official certified record.
We can review an eligible certified marriage record to identify the correct Texas filing route. Share the issuing authority, issuance date, and country of use; if necessary, we will explain what type of certified copy you should obtain.
Yes, eligible Texas-certified vital records and court records can be reviewed for the appropriate state process. The issuing office, certification, and issue date matter; a notarized photocopy of an official record is not a replacement.
Tell us which name appears on the document and which country will receive it. The receiving organization may ask for a linking document, such as a certified marriage record, in addition to an apostille.
Usually no. A birth certificate, court record, or notarized original from another state normally follows the issuing state's route. Texas can authenticate eligible Texas public records and Texas notarial acts, not ordinary records issued by another state.
Yes. You can start our review from another U.S. state or abroad if your document qualifies for the Texas process. We confirm how to send it and quote international return delivery separately.
Our Standard package is $125, Priority is $195, and Express is $395 for one eligible Texas document. All include the applicable state filing fee and standard USPS return shipping within the United States. Translation, sending documents to the processing address, international delivery, and special-case services are extra. We confirm availability and any extras before payment.
Our provisional estimates, starting when an eligible physical document reaches the confirmed processing route, are approximately 3–5 weeks for Standard, 1–2 weeks for Priority, and 5–7 business days for Express when an expedited route is available. Shipping your document to the processing address and standard USPS return transit take additional time. Texas says mailed requests can take up to two weeks after receipt; we confirm the applicable service route and estimate before payment.
Yes. Standard USPS return shipping to a U.S. address is included in the listed price for one eligible document. You pay to send your document to the confirmed processing address. International return delivery or upgraded express shipping is quoted separately.
No. These are Apostille Center USA service packages. Texas offers standard mail-in processing and certain in-person options, but we must confirm an available faster handling route before accepting a Priority or Express order. An urgent package cannot make a mailed government request jump the queue.
Texas describes same-day processing for eligible in-person requests under its current appointment and walk-in rules. That is an official state option, not a same-day promise by Apostille Center USA. Contact us for a case-specific service estimate.
After you request a free review, we send the mailing steps for your specific document and chosen service. If you prefer to file yourself, see the Texas Secretary of State’s current instructions ↗.
We can review your corporate document and identify its correct certification route. Texas Secretary of State business records on file with the state are handled through its Corporation Certifying Team, not the standard Authentications Unit path for all other records.
No. FBI background checks are federal documents and require a separate federal route through the U.S. Department of State. See the FBI Apostille service if that is your document.
For Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or elsewhere in the UAE, a regular Texas apostille is generally not the complete process. State and U.S. federal authentication, UAE attestation, and possibly translation may be needed. We quote legalization separately.
Qatar's consulate in Houston describes state authentication, U.S. Department of State authentication, and consular legalization for eligible U.S. documents. Requirements differ by document, so request a review before mailing or paying. Qatar legalization is not included in the regular Texas apostille packages.
Yes. Ask for translation during the free review. We quote the target language, document length, and whether the recipient needs the document, apostille, or both translated. Translation is not included in the three apostille package prices.
It depends on the receiving authority and whether a separately notarized translator's statement must be authenticated. In some cases the completed document and apostille are translated together; do not assume one order of steps works for every country.
An apostille verifies the origin of an eligible public document; the receiving authority decides whether it accepts the record, format, and any translation. Tell us the destination and recipient so we can flag likely extra requirements early.
These countries are parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an eligible Texas public document generally follows the Texas apostille route. Your receiving institution may still require a certified translation or a specific document format.
Texas has separate rules and a different application form for adoption proceedings. We review your adoption documents and provide a separate quote; the three ordinary Texas-document packages should not be assumed to cover adoption cases.
No. Apostille Center USA is an independent private document assistance service. The Texas Secretary of State issues Texas apostilles; we assist with review, coordination, and return delivery, not legal advice.
